On October 10 and 11th, 2024, there was a massive G5 geomagnetic storm. The storm was caused by an X9 solar flare, the strongest category of solar flares. The solar flare energy then hit Earth and caused a disturbance in its magnetosphere. The result? Dazzling, colorful northern lights. The actual name for the northern lights is Aurora Borealis. Auroras happen all the time, but most of the time they are too weak to see with the naked eye. There was another G5 geomagnetic storm on May 10th and 11th. A bunch of people saw it all over the northern U.S, with beautiful pictures all over social media. When I saw it in October, all I saw was normal clear skies, until 10:00 when the sky suddenly turned a deep red with a green lining on the bottom. When I used my phone on long exposure time, the pictures came out stunning. I was amazed, and that night was one of the best of my life. It was even seen from Texas. Were you able to see them?
