On October 9, 2024, a Category 3 hurricane struck Southern Florida. Its name, Milton. Just 13 days earlier, Category 4 Hurricane Helene hit Southern Florida. Over 300 people have died during the storm and aftermath. Many families have been left devastated.
Milton summoned many tornadoes as it trampled over Florida, and it looked like it dumped a bucket of water on Florida, for there a total 15 inches of water fell from the sky during the hurricane’s reign. This Category 3 hurricane left millions of Florida natives without power for five days.
In Miami, Milton tore the roofs off of houses and places of worship like churches and temples. Cars were thrown all over the place. A man by the name of George Bustillo from Port Salerno captured the horrifying moments on his dashcam when a tornado formed by Milton passed nearby his car. For a while, it was just harsh rain, but as the video goes on, objects start to be thrown around and trees start to fall and take airtime. The back left door of the car burst open letting water rush in. Thankfully, Bustillo wasn’t in the car at the time, but this footage shows just how powerful Milton was. The video can be found on YouTube on NBC 10 WJAR’s channel.
Hurricane Milton was a terrifying hurricane, but Long Islanders have donated lots of food and supplies to those who lost homes and loved ones.
