Did you know that October is also known as Italian-American heritage month? On Tuesday, October 15th, all 6th graders taking Italian in school were invited to see the Ferraris at Schreiber High school. It was called Ferrari Day. This special day was designed to teach students the history of Ferraris and give them a great hands-on experience.
The Ferrari originated in Maranello, Italy by its creator, Enzo Ferrari. The first car built and given the name ‘Ferrari’ was the 125 S, rolled out in May of 1947. The Ferrari has 11 victories in the Le Mans. The Le Mans is one of the oldest and fastest racetracks in the world. Did you know that the Prancing Horse symbol on the Ferrari symbolizes performance and quality all over the world? I sure didn’t. The Ferrari is most known for its game-changing performance and unparalleled elegance. Let’s dive into the special car parts of the Ferrari.
Some things that make the Ferrari so special are its car features and parts. Its V12 engine remains one of the greatest of internal combustion engines of any manufacturer. Another feature is their steering wheels. The steering wheels are smooth and aggressive, but they have a special grip that makes the wheel feel easy to grab onto and control.
The Ferrari Day event was really fun. After 5th period, we put our books in our lockers and went to the AP room. In the AP room, we did Kahoots about Enzo Ferrari and the history of Ferrari. We then walked up to Schreiber High School where we were greeted by the smooth driving, grumble-sounding Ferraris. We walked around the cars and took pictures, videos, slo-mo videos, and more. After about 30 minutes of picture taking and admiring, we were invited to sit inside the Ferraris! When I first sat in the Ferrari it was really comfortable. The seats were made out of soft leather. Finally, we asked the Ferrari drivers to rev their engines – wow, what a thrill!
Italian-American Heritage month is every October. It’s a time to acknowledge the accomplishments and successes of Italian-Americans. To get to sit in a Ferrari was a great way to celebrate.
